Ablution for prayer
Ablution for prayer
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious Most Merciful 0:05 And may Allah's prayers and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad Peace be Upon him 0:07 and his Family and Companions 0:09 Today, Insha' Allah, I'll be performing Ablution 0:16 as per the instructions or style of our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) 0:20 And we will be highlighting the Sunna of Ablution and what should be done 0:28 And what some people do in Ablution that was never part of it or considered Makrooh or prohibited 0:34 First step is the intention of your heart 0:37 You should intend in your heart that you're about to perform Ablution 0:40 And this is the base of all our actions in the Mosque 0:42 We come to the Mosque or any place of worship with the intention of performing Ablution to pray 0:48 But it might change for someone who is there to teach someone how to perform Ablution 0:59 So the intention in his heart is to teach not to perform the actions for the purpose of praying 1:04 and here, Ablution would be considered invalid for him, or he cannot continue to his prayer with this intention 1:07 But people in general do not perform Ablution without the intention 1:11 So there's no need to overdo or overstress this part 1:15 So when we want to start the Ablution we need to have the intention and it's in the heart 1:20 We are ready now to perform Ablution 1:24 Right now I'll demonstrate with explanation then I'll repeat the full process without explanation 1:29 And during the demonstration, I'll highlight some of the mistakes or some of the Sunna of the Prophet (PBUH) 1:34 Let's begin, with the will of Allah Tabarak wa Ta'ala (The Almighty) 1:37 I'm preparing now for Ablution 1:43 First thing in Ablution is mentioning the name of Allah 1:47 As the Prophet (PBUH) said in the Hadeeth mentioned by Al Nisa'i 1:49 "When you start Ablution start with 'Bismillah' (in the name of Allah)" 1:52 So before I begin I say "Bismillah" 1:55 Then I start washing my hands 1:57 3 times, and 1 time is enough 2:00 Then after that I wash my mouth (by gurgling) and my nose (by sniffing and blowing) 2:03 If I washed my mouth 3 times and my nose 3 times, my ablution is accepted 2:07 but in the Sunna, washing the mouth and nose should be one take as I will show you right now 2:15 Then I should wash my face 3 times 2:18 and the face starts from the first hair till the chin 2:25 and from the ear to the ear 2:27 These are the borders of the face, or what I face people with 2:30 and all of it should be washed 2:33 Then after that I wash my arms from the tip of the fingers till the elbow 2:38 and you wash the tips of the fingers and your elbow 2:40 and some people make a mistake by starting from the wrist 2:43 and this is wrong because you need to include the hands again 2:46 because this is one of the pillars of Ablution 2:48 then the left arm 2:50 and it is allowed to start from the left arm then the right arm 2:52 but in Sunna, we start with the right arm the the left arm 2:55 then we get to washing the head or wiping the head 2:57 and we wipe it back then forth 3:00 and 1 time is enough, either forward or backwards 3:05 then I wipe my ears with whatever water left from my hair 3:10 the index wiping the inside of the ear and the thumb wiping the outside 3:20 then I wash my feet, the right foot then the left, but it's allowed still to wash the left then the right 3:27 then I recite the Du'aa at the end of Ablution 3:31 Let's start the demonstration with the blessings of Allah 3:34 'Bismillah' (in the name of Allah) 3:36 I open the water, but not too much as not to waste because we don't need so much 3:41 this is enough water 3:44 Here we go 'Bismillah" 3:46 I wash the hands and make sure I'm washing them properly 3:49 While I'm washing my hands right now, notice how I get the water between my fingers 3:55 And it's from the Sunna to wash between the fingers during Ablution 4:03 But if you happen to not do it, your Ablution is still accepted because the water will reach 4:09 in the Hadeeth there's reference to washing the fingers as so 4:25 but the followers of the Prophet (PBUH) did not mention that they washed between the fingers 4:30 And there's only one Hadeeth that mentioned this but it's also not fully authenticated 4:36 but what we get from this is that washing between the fingers like this is a "desired Sunna 4:42 and every part that the water doesn't get to easily should be washed thoroughly like this 4:48 Letr's repeat one more time 4:50 we open the water a little bit not like how some people open the water at full power and this is wrong 4:56 And it's against the Sunna, so we only open the water a little bit like this 5:00 and we wash the hands 5:02 then after that we wash the mouth and the nose 5:08 As you see I washed my mouth and nose with one handful of water 5:10 Let's see again 5:21 When I washed my mouth, 5:24 I put some water in my mouth and some in my nose 5:27 and then removed the excess water with the left hand 5:29 And this is the way of the Sunna, wash with the right hand and remove with the left hand 5:35 And now we wash the face 5:38 the same way we open a little bit of water, fill our palms with water then.. 5:44 like this we wash the face 5:46 like this 5:47 I took the water in my hands then washed my face 5:51 Let me repeat it once more 5:52 I'm supposed to do it 3 times anyway 5:57 this is the third time' 6:00 and this is enough and no need to overdo it 6:04 Wiped my whole face with my hands 6:09 And as you see I've washed my whole face without much effort 6:12 and my hands wiped my whole face 6:14 Some people when they want to wash their face they go like this 6:22 Like this only and the hands don't go on the sides of the face 6:27 and this is wrong 6:28 and the hands are supposed to go to all the sides as to reach both ears and from the hair to the chin 6:38 and that's washing the face 6:40 and now we wash the arms and we start with the right arm like in the Sunna 6:46 like this 6:48 and this is the second time and the third 6:51 and there's another way to do it also like this 6:54 we take some little water in the palm and empty it on the arm like this 6:58 we take some little water in the palm and empty it on the arm like this 7:00 and use the hands to reach all the spots 3 times 7:04 and this follows the Ayah in the Quran "and from your hands to your elbows" 7:12 and the arm must be washed fully like this 7:15 And wiping with the hand on the arm like this is from the Sunna 7:20 and move it in a massaging movement 7:21 but if I washed my arms in this way for example 7:26 And I made sure that the water touched all parts of the arm 7:29 without massaging of wiping, the Ablution is still correct 7:32 According to the scholars it is correct 7:35 but in the Sunna you should massage the arm and wipe 7:39 now the left arm with little water also 7:42 like this 7:48 and now we're done with this part of washing the arms 7:54 now we come to wiping the head 7:59 again we get some water in our hands 8:02 we get rid of the excess water then we start from the tip of the head like this 8:06 then I go back again 8:09 and now my hands are still wet 8:13 so I wipe my ears with what's left of the water and insert the index finger like this 8:19 the index inside and the thumb on the outside 8:23 but if you only use the index like this it's still correct 8:27 but what's better is the index from the inside and the thumb on the outside to do it thoroughly 8:34 and now we come to washing the feet 8:38 open a little bit of water and I start washing the feet 8:42 and I also wash between the toes 8:46 and I wash the right foot like this 8:52 and if in the case of someone scooping for my from a jar or so I should do it 3 separate times 9:03 so this would be the first 9:05 then this is the second 9:10 then this would be the third 9:14 and I repeat the same process on my left foot like this 9:23 I wash between the toes like this 9:30 then the second time like this 9:35 then the third time like this 9:42 what's remaining now is the beard 9:45 if you have a thick beard, mine is light 9:48 take a little bit of water like this and rub under the chin to make sure the water reaches all the spots 10:02 and now I shall demonstrate the full process of Ablution 10:04 from the start to the end 10:07 according to the Hadeeth about the Prophet (PBUH) in the Saheeh by Othman all blessings be upon him 10:58 now I wash the arms 11:02 and the second time 11:05 and this is the third 11:07 now I'll wash the second arm 11:09 this is the first time 11:12 second time 11:14 and this is the third 11:16 now to the head 11:19 backward 11:20 forward 11:22 then the ears 11:28 now I wash the feet 11:30 first time 11:37 second time 11:40 third time 11:44 now the left foot 11:51 first time 11:54 second time 11:58 third time 12:04 now washing the beard 12:09 and now I'm done 12:17 so I say "Ash-hadu an la ilah illa Allah" (There's no God but Allah) 12:21 "Wahdahu la shareek lah wa ash-hadu an Muhammad abduhu wa rasuluh" (He's the One and Only and Muhammad is his servant and messenger) 12:28 drying yourself after Ablution is allowed 12:32 I can dry up or stay wet 12:36 The Prophet (PBUH) was given the towel after Ablution but he refused it 12:46 and he let the water drops fall because our sins fall off with them 12:55 as in the Hadeeth, the sins come out of the skin, from under the eyelids, the finger nails and the toe nails 13:09 and now I'm done with performing Ablution 13:11 according to the Sunna of the Prophet (PBUH) 13:16 now we have one more thing remaining 13:19 some people wipe the back of the neck 13:23 and this was not mentioned in the Sunna, that the Prophet (PBUH) wiped his neck in Ablution 13:33 which means it's not from the parts of the body done in Ablution 13:39 and I ask Allah to help us and strengthen us in following the Prophet (PBUH) in Ablution 13:46 and I performed the steps 3 times each 13:49 and 1 time is enough if you're doing Ablution and the 3 times is not an obligation 13:57 and just to not waste this opportunity I'll do Ablution once again with each action done once not 3 times 14:03 'Bismillah" (in the name of Allah) 14:08 and you'll see how simple and easy it is 14:11 'Bismillah" (in the name of Allah) 15:03 and now we're done 15:07 washing the beard 15:09 what motivated me to show you how simple and easy Ablution is 15:17 that I saw a tape by one of 'them' about Ablution and he was over doing it and complicating it and then says: 15:26 "I learned this from my parents and grandparents who learned it from the Prophet (PBUH)" 15:32 and this kind of reference is not accepted by the scholars 15:36 but the kind of reference that is accepted is the one which is cited properly and it's roots known precisely 15:42 and I also heard a Hadeeth from one of the students which says "these fingers will be eaten by the fire in Hell" 15:54 which is about washing the gaps between the fingers and was referenced by some scholars 16:01 that it is only a Sunna to wash between the fingers and especially the toes because they're closer to each other 16:09 and it's easy for the water to get through the fingers 16:13 and I pray to Allah for me and you that He blesses us with following the Sunna 16:18 and only Allah is the all knowing and may peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and all his followers |
