The Quran's Precedence in the Science of the Heart

Scientists today are seriously discussing a brain located within the heart, composed of 40,000 nerve cells. This means that what we call "the mind" resides in the heart's center, directing the brain to perform its functions. Therefore, God Almighty made the heart the instrument by which we understand.

God Almighty said:

( أَفَلَمۡ يَسِيرُواْ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَتَكُونَ لَهُمۡ قُلُوبٞ يَعۡقِلُونَ بِهَآ أَوۡ ءَاذَانٞ يَسۡمَعُونَ بِهَاۖ فَإِنَّهَا لَا تَعۡمَى ٱلۡأَبۡصَٰرُ وَلَٰكِن تَعۡمَى ٱلۡقُلُوبُ ٱلَّتِي فِي ٱلصُّدُورِ (46) )

( So have they not traveled through the earth and have hearts by which to reason and ears by which to hear? For indeed, it is not eyes that are blinded, but blinded are the hearts which are within the breasts. )
Surah Al-Hajj (46)


And God Almighty said: in surah Al-A'raf (179)

( *لَهُمْ قُلُوبٌ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ بِهَا* )

(They have hearts with which they do not understand)


That is, the Qur’an has identified for us the center of perception in man, which is the heart... which is what scientists are discovering today.

And God Almighty said: in (74) ). surah Al-Baqarah

( *ثُمَّ قَسَتْ قُلُوبُكُمْ مِنْ بَعْدِ ذَلِكَ فَهِيَ كَالْحِجَارَةِ أَوْ أَشَدُّ قَسْوَةً* )

(Then your hearts became hardened after that, being like stones or even harder.

surah Az-Zumar (22):

( *فَوَيْلٌ لِلْقَاسِيَةِ قُلُوبُهُمْ مِنْ ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ أُولَئِكَ فِي ضَلَالٍ مُبِينٍ* )

(Then woe to those whose hearts are hardened against the remembrance of Allah. Those are in manifest error.)

( *ثُمَّ تَلِينُ جُلُودُهُمْ وَقُلُوبُهُمْ إِلَى ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ* )

Then he said, in contrast, about the believers: surah Az-Zumar (23)

( and their hearts relax at the remembrance of Allah )

Every cell in the heart forms a repository of information and events, and that is why they began to speak of the heart's memory. Therefore, God Almighty has confirmed to us that everything exists in the heart, and that God tests what is in our hearts. He says: surah Al-'Imran (154)

( *وَلِيَبْتَلِيَ اللَّهُ مَا فِي صُدُورِكُمْ وَلِيُمَحِّصَ مَا فِي قُلُوبِكُمْ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ* ) [آل عمران: 154].

( [It was] so that Allah might test what is in your breasts and purify what is in your hearts. And Allah is Knowing of that within the breasts.)

Major disruptions in the heart's functioning can lead to hearing loss. God Almighty said: surah Al-A'raf (100)

( *وَنَطْبَعُ عَلَى قُلُوبِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يَسْمَعُونَ* )

( But We seal over their hearts so they do not hear)


The heart plays an important role in science and learning because it influences and directs brain cells. Therefore, the Quran has linked the heart to science, as God Almighty said: surah At-Taubah
(93)

( *وَطَبَعَ اللَّهُ عَلَى قُلُوبِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ* )

(and Allah has sealed over their hearts, so they do not know.)

The center of lying is located in the prefrontal cortex, at the top and front of the brain. The information stored in the heart, however, is true and accurate. Thus, when a person lies with their tongue, they are saying the opposite of what their heart holds. Therefore, God Almighty said:

( *يَقُولُونَ بِأَلْسِنَتِهِمْ مَا لَيْسَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ* )

(They say with their tongues what is not within their hearts)

The tongue here moves by command of the prefrontal cortex in the brain, and that is why God described this prefrontal cortex as: surah Al Alaq (16)

( *نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ* )

( A lying, sinning forelock.)

Faith resides in the heart, not the brain. Thus, some researchers emphasize the importance of the heart in faith and belief. Therefore, God Almighty said: surah Al-Ma'idah (41)

( *يَا أَيُّهَا الرَّسُولُ لَا يَحْزُنْكَ الَّذِينَ يُسَارِعُونَ فِي الْكُفْرِ مِنَ الَّذِينَ قَالُوا آَمَنَّا بِأَفْوَاهِهِمْ وَلَمْ تُؤْمِنْ قُلُوبُهُمْ* )

(O Messenger, let them not grieve you who hasten into disbelief of those who say, "We believe" with their mouths, but their hearts believe not, )

The person with an artificial heart is not afraid, affected, or concerned about anything related to the future... This is what the Quran had already stated when it emphasized that hearts are afraid and apprehensive: surah Al-Anfal (2)

( *إِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ الَّذِينَ إِذَا ذُكِرَ اللَّهُ وَجِلَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَإِذَا تُلِيَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ آَيَاتُهُ زَادَتْهُمْ إِيمَانًا وَعَلَى رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ* )

(The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and upon their Lord they rely )

And God also placed the heart as the seat of fear and terror...so He, the Exalted, said:

( and He cast terror into their hearts)

This is what we see today, especially in artificial heart surgeries, where we see that all body systems are disrupted.

The best treatment for the heart

All scientists agree that the leading cause of death is heart rhythm disturbances, and that the best treatment is to stabilize these heartbeats. It has been proven that certain sound frequencies affect heart function and help stabilize it. And what is better than the sound of the Quran? Therefore, God Almighty said: (surah Ar-Ra'd) (28)

( *الَّذِينَ آَمَنُوا وَتَطْمَئِنُّ قُلُوبُهُمْ بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ أَلَا بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبُ* )

(Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured.")

Finally, we ask God Almighty to keep our hearts steadfast in faith, and we pray with the prayer of the believers:

( *رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ*

([Who say], "Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower.)
